Hi guys and co-drillers. Kenneth here!

I wanted to write something about the duties on a rig, first of all let me say something here. You doesn’t have to be “hard” to do oil rig work. This isn’t the wild wild west anymore, if you know what I mean…

So, how is life on a drilling platform? Well, it hard alright, but the paycheck is very healthy :)

You work seven days a week, 2-3 month in a row. You are expected to work up to 14 hours a day. Not everyone can handle this kind of oil rig work and that’s also the reason why there are so many openings all the time.

When you start to work on a oil rig, you start in a entry position called Roustabout. Your duties will include:

  • Cleaning
  • Painting
  • Mixing the Drilling Mud
  • Hauling and Moving Supplies
  • Moving Heavy Machinery and Equipment

There are lots more to do than the above and on a rig, everyone help each other, especially when there’s a run on.

Check back soon for more about the life as an oil rig worker!
