Hi guys and co-drillers. Kenneth here!

I wanted to write something about the duties on a rig, first of all let me say something here. You doesn’t have to be “hard” to do oil rig work. This isn’t the wild wild west anymore, if you know what I mean…

So, how is life on a drilling platform? Well, it hard alright, but the paycheck is very healthy

You work seven days a week, 2-3 month in a row. You are expected to work up to 14 hours a day. Not everyone can handle this kind of oil rig work and that’s also the reason why there are so many openings all the time.

When you start to work on a oil rig, you start in a entry position called Roustabout. Your duties will include:

Cleaning

Painting

Mixing the Drilling Mud

Hauling and Moving Supplies

Moving Heavy Machinery and Equipment

There are lots more to do than the above and on a rig, everyone help each other, especially when there’s a run on.

Check back soon for more about the life as an oil rig worker!

Hi everyone.. thanks for stopping by Oil Rig Work!

This is the first post here on my blog, pretty cool eh?

My intention with Oil Rig Work is to let all of you know how life is on a drilling platform and what you can expect.

With the current economy you have all to win and nothing to lose, should you choose to work in the drilling business. The pay is pretty good, but you must expect to be away from home for up to 3 months at the time.

These are some of the stuff you can do when starting out with oil rig work, the numbers are the pay:

Maintenance Roustabout ($47,000)

· Roustabout ($54,500)

Welder ($62,000)

· Scaffolders($57,500)

· Radio operator($62,000)

· And many more…

I think I will do a post about the different types of jobs later… So, remember to check back sometime soon.

See you around.

Kenneth
